Closing in on 50K
Which will bring me up to the real halfway mark, tra la. I rewarded myself by hitting Legacy Books (the local and utterly gorgeous independent bookstore in Plano) and picking up some Kage Baker Company novels, plus a CSI media tie-in because I keep hoping they'll actually get Brass right one of these days. What can I say -- I'm a cock-eyed optimist.
Going back to writing, I was thinking about the word count for MMM this morning -- I've been reading the fora at the Nanowrimo site and posts by people who are absolutely and utterly thrilled that they've reached 35/40/45/50/and up K. I am absolutely delighted for them, and I think it's great that so many people are nailing their butts to chairs and getting the words out, but I'm not feeling the same enthusiasm when I look at my word count.
I think the reason why I haven't been doing backflips or anything is that, well, I've already written things that large -- Sabre Dance topped out at 35K, and White Knight, Queen Alice stands at around 105K (that number changes as I edit -- I figure it'll wind up at 110K once I flesh out a couple of scenes). To me, this is just another book to write, and realistically I'm not even at the real halfway point yet. And yeah, I'm reaching the middle of the book doldrums -- I don't think it's crap or anything, but it's starting to become a slog. I know I have to push through this and I'll recapture the excitement on the other side, but right now -- eh.
Good golly, why am I complaining? I mean, jeez, I know how great I'll feel when I finish it because I remember how great I felt when I finished Sabre Dance and WKQA -- I'll be grinning like the Joker for at least a day or so. I think I just needed a momentary vent, don't mind me.
