Obviously the Muse thinks I'm bored
I haven't mentioned this recently, I know, but now that we're 1) in the house, 2) things that we need access to are unpacked (there's still plenty to unpack, but we'll get to that once the weather warms up and I can finish varnishing the bookcases in the garage), 3) the master bath is reaching completion and 4) I don't have to travel anywhere until February, I've been able to pull out White Knight, Queen Alice and work on editing it (I can hear you cheering, Jana). So far it's been sorta fun, especially since I had to write some brand-new sections to replace ones that were no longer applicable to the story (aka wrong country, wrong gender, etc.).
So I'm working, right? I'm planting butt in chair and fingers on keyboard,
just like a pro. But for reasons known only to herself, the Muse seems
to think I don't have quite enough to do right now, because that
darling li'l mojito-swilling demigoddess has picked this week to spring
a brand new novel idea on me. A really, really good one that can easily
turn into a series. To the point where I worked out a cast of characters
and a rough outline while calling into a meeting (I'm only there as a
backup for another developer and she was on the call so I was free to
wander mentally). At least there is indeed a market for police procedurals
with moderate SF and really strong romance elements, according to Vonda
McIntyre.
So it looks like I get to see if I can still double boot and edit one novel while writing another. I also need to figure out the command structure and location of LV Metro Homicide (yeah, yeah, I watch CSI, but they also have a pocket universe where they can send off DNA results and get them back within hours so I'd prefer a slightly more fact-based source), as well as whomp up the structure of a police department that patrols alternate timelines. This should be interesting.
