Sale!

Let this be a lesson to me in the future when I find myself stuck in a creative mire, wondering if I'll ever find an end to a story. I stuck to my guns, finished the story, submitted it, and found out late tonight that "Lusts of the Cat Queen: A Dash Manning Adventure" (yes, that's the final title -- remember, this story is a pastiche of classic 50's hero spaceman SF) has been accepted by Helix SF and will most likely be in the July 2008 issue.

And it's science fiction. I was going to say "straight-up science fiction" but, considering the lead character, that might not be the most...appropos...description. Ahem.

But I am a happy little writer. Hey, the last sale to Helix wound up on the Nebula prelim ballot -- it's been a damn good market for me. And now I can focus on finishing the short story that needs to be in the mail by Monday at the latest, because a writer's work is never done.

Speaking of another endless track...

This is not only the year of my 25th high school reunion, but I will also be one of the staff members representing Helix at the Hugos this year, so I've decided to get serious about the gym time in order to look nice in a dress.

So far this week I've done two day's worth of 40 minute sessions on the treadmill, and my legs haven't fallen off yet. Incredible. Although my knees do hurt like a mother when I sit down for longer than 10 minutes. And no, I'm not going to spend the bulk of my time standing, thank you very much.

On the good side, my legs are starting to show faint signs of definition, which is encouraging, and I can always wear Ace bandages on the knees until the muscles are back up to snuff. Still, this getting old dealie isn't for sissies.

Oh, and here is a picture of the small furry creature that accompanied me on my latest session. Looks comfortable, doesn't he?

And the good things just keep coming

Something very promising has just heaved forth on the work horizon, so please keep your fingers crossed!
