Well, that wasn't fun

So I was heading out to the complex's weight room tonight, as I've been doing this week, when a squad car pulls up next to me. The officer asks me if I've seen a black male walking around and behaving suspiciously. I say no, but I have my cell on me and if I see anything odd I'll call 911. He thanked me and cruised on.

Not being stupid and being unarmed, I did an about face and headed back to the apartment, passing two more squad cars and a police SUV on the way. Wow. Granted, it's probably nothing -- we've got a number of black families here with teenagers, and chances are it was some kid out with his buddies and someone got the wrong idea -- but considering that the Walgreen's across the street had its ATM yanked out in the wee hours of the morning a couple of weeks ago (same thing happened in a Dallas convenience store a couple of days later and the cops caught two of the thieves -- I do have to wonder if it was the same team) I figured discretion was the better part of valor.

So, instead of throwing iron around I'll do some yoga and leg exercises in the living room. It all counts in the end. Speaking of ends, mine seems to be firming a bit, and the double chin does seem to be receding. Small steps, granted, but nice ones to see nonetheless.

Of course I'm probably going to be retaining water like a mofo tomorrow, thanks to my latest discovery, but it will be worth it. These last few months I've been pining for phở (Vietnamese soup of golden broth with rice noodles and your choice of beef, garnished with coriander and onions, plus basil leaves, bean sprouts, fresh lime and jalapeno on a side plate), mainly because I needed a blast of hot, spicy, delicious soup to clear my sinuses back to the hair roots, and the craving came to a head this afternoon.

So I turned to my friend Google, plugged in "Plano" and "phở" and found the absolutely delightful Phở Que Huong, located at 8600 Preston Road, #117. Google fibs and places this branch on on Preston just south of McDermott when actually it's in the Preston Village mall, in one of the freestanding shops facing east. And may I just say OMG YUM. My sinuses are now pleasantly clear and I'm stuffed. Better yet, they're a small chain of restaurants all over Dallas and heading westward so if you like Vietnamese food I strongly recommend you find a local outlet and try their stuff. Mmmm...

Okay, I've gotta admit something

Annoying as he can be at times, there's something very cute about having a tuxedo cat asleep in my arms on a cold, blustery night. Earlier this evening, Jordan was sprawled on top of my left hand and arm, wedged between my body and the forward edge of the laptop, snoring in perfect contentment.

Made typing somewhat difficult, mind you, but he was adorable.
