Hello from Disneyworld!
Granted, I've also been up for almost 30 hours, but by God I'm here, so that's one for the win column.
The morning started at 5:00 AM, after a couple of hours staring at my darkened bedroom ceiling and wondering if it would be possible to grab some sleep on the plane. Realizing that further staring at said ceiling would be sorta pointless I got up, got dressed, reassured JJ that I did love him and would be back in four days, threw toiletries into my bag, extracted JJ from my bag and headed to Love Field (the idea was to take Southwest, the same airline as Stacy and Clara, so that I could be waiting for them at their gate after last year's contretemps where we couldn't find each other and wound up screaming on our respective cell phones).
The only issue with this plan was that Southwest didn't offer a non-stop from Dallas to Orlando, so my plane wound up making a pit stop in Houston. I also had a seatmate on the Dallas-Houston leg who kept elbowing me in the ribs and boobs, then informed me he'd be thinking of me as he left. Okaaaaay. The seatmate on the Houston-Orlando leg, however, was a very nice and remarkably funny little girl named Lexa who informed me that she was an Alpha (what they're calling gifted/talented these days) and wanted to know how clouds formed. I obligingly channeled Bill Nye the Science Guy and explained about evaporation and condensation, then we talked about heated pools and what she planned on doing at Disneyworld.
When we finally landed (almost 45 minutes late, rendering useless the
point about taking this stupidly early flight so that I could be waiting
for Stacy and Clara) I jogged over and just barely beat the relatives
to their gate, at which point we realized we were seriously overdressed
for a warm, humid Florida afternoon. Sweating freely, we slogged
our way onto the Disney Magic Express and headed to the Wilderness Lodge,
where we proceeded to pop Clara into her bathing suit and watch her swim
with a certain sense of envy (if you use the Disney Magic Express to
get to the hotel your bags will be automatically picked up at the airport
and delivered to your room -- the actual delivery time, however, can
be up to five hours after you arrive) and drinking some very necessary
strawberry/mango margaritas.
We came back up to the room to take a break and watch TV for a bit, at which point our bags arrived and we gratefully changed into shorts and T-shirts to grab some dinner, then changed out of them into swimsuits and spent the rest of the evening hanging out at the pool. This, my friends, is the way to live. The only issue was that I overcompressed my good knee when jumping into the pool and pulled one of the anterior ligaments, and woke up walking like Quasimodo. Luckily the hotel store sells pressure bandages, and that plus a couple of Tylenol really helped.
And now, I must collapse into bed before my brain decides to do it for me.
