Still sewing
The end is in sight, and then I must hope that Shout can work its magic once more on the various quilt marks. I know I must get sorta boring when I'm in mid-quilt -- there are only so many things one can say about freehand quilting, turfing the cat off the sewing table yet again and why the invention of the wrist splint was a Good Thing. I'm not quite sure why you stick with me, but I'm grateful that you do.
In other news, the Piemaker has hit on two incredibly good low-carb baking recipes. The first is for cheesy biscuits, just like the ones you can get at Red Lobster but with 2 grams of carbs apiece. Oh, my GOD, these are incredible. And apparently the low-carb flour used in their production is mainly fiber, so it scrubs out your GI tract as well. Yay!
The second recipe was for a sinfully yummy lemon pound cake. The Piemaker said that he detected an aftertaste from using sugar-free lemon yogurt plus Splenda ("Mmrph?" I said around my mouthful of pound cake) and the next version will be made with plain yogurt and he'll just bump up the lemon essence (I suggested that he add poppy seeds as well, which he deemed a good idea). However, the aftertaste was completely removed by dabbing the cake with sugar-free, lowfat whipped cream, which Lyndon assumes is basically an emulsifying agent with some flavoring thrown in.
Total carb load per slice (and we're talking a good 1" slice here) -- 5 grams. Not too freaking shabby at all, my friends.
After his successful round in the kitchen he headed out to gaming, and I dashed out for a quick bowl of pho before settling down for the last round of freehand quilting and putting on the binding. As of this evening half of the binding is on, but I discovered that I badly puckered a couple of inches along the border so I need to pick those stitches out and requilt before I can continue with the binding.
I also discovered that in my frenzied sewing yesterday I forgot to watch the second episode of Torchwood, and since the network didn't push a new broadcast time to Tivo today I recorded half of the Super Bowl postgame show and only half of House. All I know is that the scientist at the South Pole, played by the lissome Mira Sorvino, said, "I'm screwed" when the sudden pain she'd experienced on her right side moved to her left. Crap. That was turning out to be a damn good episode, too. If Fox had any shame (why the HELL did they put this on after the Super Bowl, anyway?) they'd rebroadcast it in its normal time slot, but we're probably not that lucky and as a writer I refuse to download episodes from the Fox website or indeed from any online source until a contract with the WGA has been finalized.
Feh. Did I mention feh? Feh.
