La la la

I don't really have a lot of things to say today -- I did laundry, indulged in a rare and beautiful mocha frappucino, read various journals, downloaded some new podcasts, straightened up the kitchen and vacuumed the worst of the shreds from Jordan's rapidly shedding scratching post. Yeah, absolutely fascinating.

I also had to wrap up a highly offended JJ and pill him solo because he was complaining vociferously all morning, then started picking on Jordan (who, for once, was actually minding his own business). It's very obvious when he's off his meds -- homeboy develops a real attitude.

Of course, the saddest thing is that we have to medicate him because he's too smart for his own good and gets bored. Once we have a house, I want to put up a cat-proof fence in the back yard and let him go out on a regular basis -- I think he'd absolutely love it, seeing as he always tries to sneak past me when I go out for a walk. If it's late at night and I'm not too tired, I'll let him do it, and follow him around the building as he explores the bushes and finds all the cool places where only a cat can go. I kinda feel bad when I pick him up and bring him back inside -- he's made it very clear that he'd be more than happy to wander around on his own -- but it's just too damn dangerous out there, even for a beefy black cat:

  • We're on the intersection of two main roads, and not a day goes by when I don't see roadkill somewhere along one of those roads.

  • If that wasn't bad enough, people regularly whip around the complex like it's a NASCAR stadium, and JJ doesn't exactly show up all that well at night (yes, I could get him a collar, but still).

  • We've had an influx of coyotes or coy-dogs -- big ass mothers, too. I do not want my black velvet purrmonster to become Coyote Chow.

So, as much as he dislikes it, he's an indoor cat on meds for the nonce -- I love his furry little ass too much to risk it to the great outdoors. Besides, we have a balcony that he can go on whenever he likes, so it's hardly as if he's in solitary.
