Man, I'm tired
And I don't even know why, really. I think I got enough sleep last night, but all I really want to do right now is crash.
I did get the nicest compliment today, though. I'm making a dress jacket for a friend of mine; she'd ordered a reversible bolero jacket with 3/4 sleeves in a sapphire blue brocade with yellow brocade lining from a local designer, and got a full-length jacket with temple sleeves in purple crinkly stuff. Perfectly nice, but not what she wanted or needed.
Hearing about this, I offered to make a pair of jackets for her in the desired colors and fabrics. Brought over some samples a couple of weeks ago, she approved them, and I went home and whomped up the first of two jackets.
Today was fitting day. When I got home, I saw this posted in her newsgroup:
So there I was, dutifully working on a con report and a short story, when the beauteous Melanie Fletcher, Royal Clothier and Designated White Knight Designer crossed my threshold. The occasion was a fitting of the almost-completed jacket for the Nebula Banquet.
Oh...my...gracious...goodness. I am ecstatic. The material -- a royal blue brocade with gold and silver in staggering amounts -- looks even more luscious done up in jacket form than it did as a swatch. The jacket, even in rough-out, fits me to an nth, is exactly the perfect length for elegant sittage, and looks smashing. The line is sleek -- and sleek-making, and Melanie has performed some kind of arcane magic that makes the thing look like a cross between military dress jacket and rolling seduction. It is what I envisioned, only more so, and there's no doubt in my mind that I am going to look GOOD!
And there's a gold-brocade version of it coming right behind it, identical in cut. I'm already keeping an eye out for camisole top and palazzo pants.
I am in serious glee mode here.
Hee. I always like it when I make people happy with my stuff.
