*happysigh*

So last night was the series finale of ROME (HBO series about the antics of Julius Caesar and his great-nephew Octavian/Augustus as seen through the eyes of two Roman soldiers). Since I know the history, nothing really surprised me, but I do think the exe?ution of Antony's descent into dissolution and his eventual suicide was extremely well-handled by James Purefoy. Really, the entire series cast were wonderful in their roles.

And need I say, MAJOR eye candy? Lots and lots and LOTS of pretty boys (and striking men in the case of Ciaran Hinds, who performed the hottest screen kiss it has ever been my pleasure to watch), from an absolutely marvelous scene of Purefoy getting the Roman equivalent of a bath, to Tobias Menzies (who looks really, REALLY good with a beard) walking into a pond. And who could forget that most, um, athletic scene with Ray Stevenson and Lynsdey Marshal going at it in Cleo's golden caravan? Okay, so it had soap opera-ish tones -- who cares when the scenery is so gorgeous?

And I don't care how much it fudges with history -- I'm very glad that Pullo was able to rescue his "son" (the final reaction shot from the kid was brilliant). Now I just have to wait until the second season comes out on DVD.
