I R a happy emailer

Because we knew we'd be bopping from country to country in the early part of our marriage, we set up an account with what used to be IBM.net (now ATTGlobal.net) in Canada. That way, all we'd have to do is get a local POP (and since ATTGlobal was truly global, that would be possible), and we could dial in and always keep the same email addy.

This was, gosh, almost thirteen years ago. At that time, having a 3MB mail storage limit for three users on the same account was more than enough. In the intervening years, however, we've seen the wonderful development that is Spam, which means that now I HAVE to check my email multiple times a day or my email box overflows and mail starts bouncing because I receive gobs of spam. Which means that the laptop goes everywhere with me, whether I want to lug it along or not.

Three years ago, when we switched the ATTGlobal account from Lyndon's soon-to-be-expired credit card to mine, I asked if there was any way to increase our email storage. Not unless we got a business account, the operator explained, and then we'd lose our long-established email addresses. Apparently this is no longer the case, as I just checked and found out that we can now change plans without changing our user IDs.

So I switched. For $20CAN more a month, each user on the account will have 12MB of email storage space, plus access to webmail (YAY!) plus we get 10MB of web space, and it all starts as of February 1. Color Mellie a very, VERY happy email user!

I have committed Dyson

Dyson Animal, to be exact -- the hideously expensive but superlatively effective vacuum that will suck a golf ball through a hose, and will rid your carpet of anything that doesn't belong there. I have been faunching over one of these for years, and after today's vet visit where the vet finally declared that yes, JJ does have some pretty severe skin allergies concentrated on his tummy and back legs (and what does his tummy and back legs come into contact with most of the time? The carpet, of course), I decided to bite the bullet and get one from Sears.

Lyndon's comment upon seeing it -- "It looks like Captain Kirk's vacuum! 'Spock, you know I like my quarters clean, and those Tribbles left fur everywhere!'" He also gulped a bit at the price, but then we put it together and tried it out.

Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster. I have cleaned the entrance foyer, maybe a foot into our bedroom, and my office; we're talking maybe a grand total of 75 square feet. So far I have cleared the canister THREE times, and the bulk of the contents was dust. Plain old grey dust. The telling thing: the vacuumed section 1) look and 2) FEEL cleaner. It will be very interesting to see what I get out of our bedroom, not to mention the living room and stairs, and to see what effect this has on my allergies as well as JJ's.

As for Le Chat

He is on 5 mg of Prednisone and Clavimox twice a day for the next two weeks to stop the itching (the Pred) and clear up the infected scabs on his belly and legs (the Clavimox), after which we go to a once daily tablet of Pred. All I have to say is, I am SO grateful I bought a pill popper -- it makes pilling the cat much, much easier. Between that and the Dyson, his skin allergies should be under control in a month or so.
