So I was supposed to spend the day doing help pages for a customer, except that I have been running into constant and extremely annoying problems accessing their SourceSafe directory over a VPN connection. After calling the poor project manager and allowing my voice to go up a notch or two, I finally received the files in zipped format a couple of minutes ago, which is a goodness.
In the meantime, since I didn't have my time sucked into the accretion disk of contract work, I spent it working on UNDERCOVER GODMOTHER and disimpacting my office. And I use that term deliberately and with great accuracy, seeing as I kept stumbling from clear spot to clear spot muttering, "How did all this shit wind up in here?" Since I had a narrow card table set up against the window to work on my niece's dollhouse I couldn't get into the lower drawers of the filing cabinet, which meant that I had close to three months' worth of paperwork stacked up on various flat surfaces, not to mention the other crap that I've just been flinging in there to get it out of the common rooms.
With some judicious rearranging of furniture, I was able to move the craft table against the wall and gain access to the filing cabinet again, so much of the paperwork is now filed. After taking a break to watch "The Dresden Files" (very nice, and I intend to watch future episodes), I headed back in there to sort out the rest of the room. So THAT'S what my office floor looks like!
Granted, the office is not done by A Longe Chalke(TM), but at least I have all the paperwork filed correctly, various things put away and the futon looking like a futon and not a shapeless pile of papers, fabric and computer bits. I need to reorganize the USB hub network and find a place to stick my two-drawer filing cabinet while I'm working on the dollhouse, but I'll think about that tomorrow at Tara.
Unfortunately, a lot of stuff got shoved into the closet just so that I could clear the office floor and vacuum it tomorrow. Once the office is actually clean, I'll start reorganizing stuff in the closet (which doubles as my crafts closet, so it's chock full of yarn, fabric, art supplies, dollhouse kits, et al).
