Oh, baby, it's COLD outside
Oh, yeah, the drive in this morning was an adventure -- sleet, freezing rain and ice as far as the eye could see. The only places treated with sand and deicer were the bridges, which were few and far between. I've never driven in all the way to work before in second gear. However, everyone else was also in second gear, which was heartening -- no yahoo in a 4x4 thinking that he could do 45 MPH on ice.
And I'm not seeing any flakes yet tonight, but it definitely smells like snow out there (I was just out on the balcony taking down the Christmas lights as per our complex's request). Which makes me rather pleased I stopped off at my favorite LYS to get some yarn and should have a rather stylish black crocheted hat with toned green fur trim by the time I toddle off to bed.
It's GOOD to be a crafter.

Favorite minor characters: Since Maria and her mother live close to ISU, there are older students renting apartments in their complex, and their downstairs neighbors are two grad students, one of whom is a cheerfully flaming theatre student. Tthe other is slightly more restrained, as appropriate for an MBA candidate, unless it comes to sarcasm, then he goes all out. It's going to lead to jokes about fairy godmothers vs. fairy godfathers, I'm pretty sure, and they make for a fun and interesting Greek chorus.
And all this, mind you, done while suffering from a mystery gut bug that did its best to strip everything in my lower GI tract, including my intestinal lining, and send it straight down the pooper. Oooergh. And then I had a low blood sugar crash on top of it all, which just made today ever so special. I'm either a masochist or I'm desperate to finish this book.
