A nice cold weather breakfast sammich
In honor of the ice storm currently sweeping through Texas, I decided I would have more than a bowl of cereal for breakfast.
- Take a bagel (a real one, not a ring-shaped roll). My favorite is onion.
- Put a bit of cream cheese on it (in this case chive and onion).
- Crack an egg into a bowl and mix it well, then microwave it for 1.5 minutes.
- Slide the now-cooked egg onto one half of the bagel, top with the other half and eat.
When I showed it to Lyndon, he commented, "So...you just invented the Egg McBagel."
Men. "Yes, but my version has less than half the fat content of the McDonald's version," I grumped.
"Petal, if you rolled it in Crisco and deep fried it, it would still have less fat than the McDonald's version," he replied. "If fat acted like gravity, McDonalds would have an event horizon by now."
He has a point. Still, it was a nice way to start off the day, which has been hovering around freezing and thus actually feels like winter. I know a lot of Texans are absolutely horrified at weather like this, but I rather like it -- it's crisp, cold and reminds you that you're alive when you're out in it, probably because it feels so damn good when you come back in.
And yes, ice storm be damned, we went out in it. The plan had been to go down to Fair Park and do the monthly antique fair, but the route goes over a number of bridges, any of which could have been iced over, so we decided to drive very carefully to the Angelika (aka the nearby art movie house) and see THE QUEEN.
