Annoyances of various kinds
The ice storm we enjoyed (harrumph) back in mid-January has had some unpleasant knock-on effects with our mail service. Never stellar to begin with (I've dropped paid bills into our apartment pickup box and they vanished off to where the woodbine twineth, resulting in late payments and gnashed teeth for me), I suspect that our local branch took one look at the icy streets and said, "The hell with 'neither rain, nor sleet nor dark of night' -- we're not going out there." And as a result, they either turfed various things back to the senders or simply trashed them.
Why do I suspect this, you ask? Because my first paycheck was supposed to arrive on the Friday of the ice storm, and never got here. Packages from England were returned to sender with the label "Insufficient address" (one, a Wedgwood plate that I'd won on eBay, wound up with the seller sending me pictures of the "insufficient address" to make sure that it was correct. It was, down to the apartment building and number).
And now I realize that the new battery I bought on eBay for my PDA in early January has gone walkies. Unlike the English packages, this would have been small enough to trash. The seller, who has a sterling rating I have no reason to doubt, wants to know why I haven't left feedback for him. I need to explain about the crappy mail service around here and see if I can buy a new battery (they're inexpensive enough so I'm not that upset about it, but it's dashed irritating).
And then, I may just look into getting a PO box at one of the mail centers around here. Gnargh.
