Well, this sucks

Fabulous. Between the high winds in Dallas/Ft. Worth and the low ceiling in Chicago, our 3:10 PM flight has been delayed to 7:07 PM. This, after we'd waited for almost an hour to board the plane. The guy who announced it sounded like he expected the crowd to tear him to bits and fling bloody body parts about the terminal.

So we went back to the Admiral's Club, thirteen gates down from our departure gate, which makes three trips cross-terminal so far, to wait in comfort. Oh, and Stacy just texted and said that the temps are supposed to drop below freezing up there later tonight, and the wind advisory lasts here until 9:00 PM. If there are any other delays, we're collecting our baggage and going home.

Okay, slightly better

As it turned out, they announced about an hour after we got back to the club that the flight was boarding NOW. Which meant another 13-gate dash across Terminal A BACK to the gate. I have gotten my aerobics today, and no mistake.

The plane did finally take off, although it was...interesting...to see the wingtips bouncing up and down like that in the air. Yes, I know they can cross a 30-foot arc before snapping off, but still. And about 20 minutes from landing we hit fog -- it was exceedingly eerie to hear the loud plane engines suddenly muffled, and I started wondering if something was happening and the pilots just didn't want to worry us.

But we landed safely, got the bags, picked up the car (idiot me forgot to reserve one, and when I couldn't find said reservation and realized what had happened, Alamo was cleared out. Luckily Hertz wasn't, but oy they're expensive), and are currently ensconced in our downtown hotel room eating rosemary chicken panini and drinking Diet Pepsi (Lyndon) and Bailey's (moi). All in all, a promising beginning to the holiday.
