Well, that's off

"The Royal Bloodhounds" is done and off to S&S22, with fingers crossed (and if they don't like it, coolness, I'm already lining up other potential markets). And now I'm 1,500 words into another short due at the end of the month, and oh, I'm having FUN with this one! Imagine a very spoiled modern rich girl gifted with a brand-new Victorian mansion dollhouse for her birthday who damages it in a fit of pique...and the dolls are NOT happy.

And it's not even horror -- more of a tongue-in-cheek coming-of-age story, with a lot of snark thrown in. Mwahahahahaha. And I do believe I'm going to take a leaf from Susan Shwartz's book -- if this one sells, I'm buying the kit that the fictional dollhouse is based upon.

I have no idea where I'd PUT it, mind you. But I'm still buying it.

Sweaty but accomplished

Now this is what I call a good Saturday. After chunking out 1500 words on a short, I dashed out and grabbed a fast steak (mmm, beef), then headed to Home Depot and picked up two hanging baskets of varigated purple petunias and two 9" decorative brackets. The baskets went up on existing hooks; the brackets were installed so that we could hang two very gorgeous Morroccan-style lanterns we'd picked up last year at Another Time and Place. Now I just have to get some pillar-style citronella candles, and they're ready to go.

Once those were up, I sweated off about two pounds while moving all the furniture around and sweeping up mounds of dirt (I'm not being facetious -- between the recent winds and the earth-filled tubs I store out there, the concrete was liberally piled with dust and dirt).

So now I'm hot, dirty and sweaty. But the balcony looks mahvelous.
