I R a Riter!
As you know (Bob), I'm thisclose
to finishing Undercover Godmother, and have been merrily chunking away
at it for the last 3.5 months or so. This habit of writing something EVERY
day, even if it's crap of purest ray serene, has turned out to be a blessing
in disguise for my short fiction.
Shameful confession: I've had a story idea for the S&S 22 antho for months, now, but I hadn't done much to put it on paper (granted, I was writing other things, but still). I had planned to work on it last weekend, but Life(TM) intervened and now I'm staring down the barrel of a hard deadline. Before, I would've thrown up my hands in surrender and grumbled off to a dark corner, cursing myself for my sloth. But now, because of all the practice coming to a head with UG, I'm steadily churning away at the story (started on Monday) because I KNOW in my gut that I can easily chunk out 3K a day and I can damn well finish it if I try.
With luck and a tail wind, the first draft will be done by tonight. Polishing will commence immediately and continue in tomorrow's dawn hours and during the lunch break, and deus volent and the crick don't rise I'll be mailing it off to the editors tomorrow night before midnight.
And in doing this, I feel like a professional writer, and it feels good. Now, back to the story.
