Oh, my aching everything
Lyndon's been having breathing problems and chest tightness
for some time, now, so his doc sent him off to a pulmonary specialist. The
specialist said that Lyndon has an odd weight gain pattern -- a LOT of it is
in his neck, and as a result the soft tissues of the throat have been constricted,
partially compressing the windpipe. This means that when he runs into an allergen
or a bug that causes inflammation of the throat, he doesn't have the wiggle
room that other people have, and he's not getting nearly enough air.
First step -- lose weight (which is fine with him, and he's already started in with the exercise and the salads). Second step -- Allegra and Nasonex to keep his passages as wide open as possible. Third step -- sleep study and possibly a CPAP machine. In the meantime, however, he's got to watch it with allergens and dust because they'll close off his windpipe to dangerous proportions.
Which made me take a good look around our bedroom. I haven't done more than a cursory tidy for Some Time Now, and when I blew a thick layer of dust from one of the side tables, I realized action had to be taken NOW.
So, I cleaned. And I mean I CLEANED -- in addition to putting away all the loose stuff, all fabrics in the room (including the window valances) were washed, the crown molding and room corners dusted, all surfaces dusted and polished, the ceiling fan dusted with a vengeance, the mattresses turned over and vacuumed, the baseboards scrubbed free of dust and dirt, and the entire carpet (which required moving our kingsized bed a number of times) vacuumed until the dirt sensor on the vacuum didn't light anymore, and our portable fan/air filter turned up to maximum to suck as much of the disturbed dust out of the air as possible.
This morning I feel like I've been beaten with a shilleighle and my bad knee is screaming at me, but that room is CLEAN. Now I just have to do the rest of the apartment. *whimper*
