Sale!

Just found out that my story "The Padre, the Rabbi and the Devil His Own Self" will appear in the second issue of Helix, which will be out this October. And I have to say, I'm extremely proud of this acidic little piece -- how can you not love a story where a kidnapped Catholic priest has to perform an exorcism in an old nightgown and a neon purple velvet runner with Elvis painted on it?

Hmm, Lyndon might have a point -- I may have been writing Bubba stories just a little too long. s

But the nice thing about this being done and accepted is that I can buckle down and finish BEST PROTECTION now -- since it turns out that it only has to be 35K long, I should be able to add the final 10K in a week or so, deus volent and the crick don't rise. And once that's done, polished and handed in, it's time to return to 1870 Oxford and start chopping WHITE KNIGHT, QUEEN ALICE into submission shape.

Man, I sound like a professional writer and shit, don't I? And the first one of you to say, "It's about time" will get a rap right in the mouth (I'm looking at you, Staton).

Speaking of Helix, the zine is doing remarkably well considering that it's only been live for four days. We've already pulled in enough donations to clear our publishing costs for the next year, which means that there will be four issues whether people like it or not, and the contributors in Ish #1 should be receiving rather pleasant little checks come October 1. There's also been a huge stink raised in various areas about it, both within the writing dodge and by people offended by Janis Ian's brilliant story "Mahmoud's Wives." Then again, our attitude has always been "If we're not offending people, we're doing something wrong," so it's all good.

And now, back to work.
