An insanely busy weekend

Between the con (Project A-Kon, one of the local anime cons and a ginormous affair) and the houseguests (two, who came in for the con), I have had what you might call a chockablock weekend.

First, the con -- I'm a regular at this one, and they've finally rejuvenated the writing track after letting it lie fallow for a couple of years. I think I had a total of eight events, including the writers' workshop, reading and Banquet with the Stars. The panels were all nifty, and I got to work with P.N. Elrod, Tom Knowles, Helen McCarthy and Gloria Oliver, which is always a trip.

I also had a table from which to hawk my wares, an endeavour that bore no fruit until Sunday when the crowds cleared and people could actually SEE my table (I commented to one of the organizers that next year I need to wear something low-cut with a bustier. He nodded thoughtfully and said, "Breasts sell"). However, I did manage to sell seven anthologies and chapbooks -- considering that this is not a literary con, I'm quite happy with the haul (however, I was so busy hustling chapbooks that I completely forgot to take pictures -- sorry!).

I also got to sit next to the lovely and talented Jana Oliver and snag a copy of her new book SOJOURN (time travelers, shapeshifters and Jack the Ripper -- how can you go wrong?) while we chatted about assorted projects and Stuff(TM).

We also spent a lot of time writing, so much so that I made up a sign that read:

Genuine Writers at Work!
Feel free to disturb us and/or buy something.
Money, food and trinkets happily accepted!

Got a lot of laughs with that, I can tell you.

The houseguests (both female) enjoyed dressing up in fukus and other anime-style costumes, and spent the bulk of their con time in drawing workshops or browsing the dealer's room. They're off wandering Dallas with Lyndon today, and tonight we're going to make up a big batch of spaghetti, laze about the place and watch DVDs.

And now, I need to reset my head for "day job" mode. Whee.

And if that wasn't enough

Have I mentioned yet that Thursday is a special day? No, not because it's the day quarterly taxes are due (although that's a good thing to remember). And no, it's not my birthday. Although it will be the birth of something memorable.

More info on Thursday. Stay tuned!
