UNITED 93

Just a warning to people planning on seeing this -- it's all hand-held camera work, very much in the cinema verité style. And for those of you who, like me, are very susceptible to motion sickness and get queasy while viewing lots of hand-held camera work, I can pretty much guarantee you that you'll be forced to flee the theater by the halfway point before you hurl all over the people in the forward row.

Which is a pity, because what I saw up to that point was sad, powerful and gripping as all hell. I'll have to rent it when it comes out on DVD and listen to the rest of it while quilting or something.

Lazing on a sunny afternoon...

Since I was oh so cruel enough to close the blinds in the living room (in a vain attempt to shut out the sun's heat and cut down on our A/C bill), the Boyz were forced to relocate to the kitchen in order to find a patch of sunlight. When will I ever learn?

The Boyz, taking in the sun.

"Oh, cabana girl? Could you fetch us a couple of Cuba Libres and a bowl of kibble? And have the grounds crew refresh the kitty grass and do something about those trees -- they're blocking our view."

"You know what, Mom? I'm happy...even if you can't see my right eye. Just trust me -- it's there."

"Well, what do you THINK I'm doing? I'm practicing for when I grow up to be a black panther and can stalk the wildebeest across the savanna. Those wildebeest aren't going to bring themselves down, you know."

*pause*

"What do you mean, I'm not going to be a black panther? You're lying to me again, aren't you? Like when you told me that sleeping in the dryer would get me all dizzy and I'd throw up. I showed you -- I threw up anyway! Ha!"
