First off, a note of welcome

Since he just found out about it today, everybody say hello to my colleague Luke, who just found out about this journal today (and yes, I told him about it).

*HI, LUKE*

That's nice.

Aaaaand it's FRIDAY

Which is good, because I really need the break. Once I finish cleaning the apartment, I have a novel (yes, Jamie, I'm still working on it -- I need to update my word count over there), a couple of stories and a baby quilt (and Jamie, what ARE your favorite colors, anyway? :-)) that I want to spend some delicious downtime on -- and yes, I really do need to clean the apartment first. It only needs some tidying and a good vacuum, so I should be able to knock that out of the box by Saturday afternoon.

Speaking of quilts, however, here are the first two blocks for my new niece Paige's baby quilt. I got the idea from an eBay auction I lost for some similar foundation paper pieced blocks, after which I realized, "Ya know, you could just MAKE the damn things yourself."

And for those of you who are sitting there wondering what the hell I'm blathering about (hi, Luke!), foundation paper piecing is when you take a pattern printed on a piece of paper and sew the fabric to the pattern using a "stitch and flip" method. You also use really tiny stitches so that the paper is perforated -- when you're finished, you tear the paper off, and you're left with a precise patchwork block. It's also a great way of using up small scraps (a lot of the fabric in these blocks come from scraps from my Y2K challenge quilt and the Tumbling Tropics quilts I made for Peter's kids.

I do know how to make paper foundations, so I whipped up my own in Illustrator, printed out a whole bunch of them, and started sewing. The actual foundation block is the multicolored flower -- I added white strips to space the blocks out a bit. If I put this on a marbled pink background, it's going to look spectacular.

And now, onward with the weekend (starting with SG1- SG Atlantis and Battlestar: Galactica -- yay!).

And since he'll bitch if I don't mention this

I had a most lovely mid-day break by heading to Richardson and dining at the Greek Isles Restaurant with three of my favorite men -- the Bodacious Brit, Steve and Mike Jones. I probably would have enjoyed myself more if it weren't for a persistent queasiness brought on by allergies, but even so we had a rather entertaining time talking about the political situation and British DVDs.

Happy now, bubula?
