I love it when stuff like this happens
I
am a VERY happy camper at the moment, and it all has to do with quilting neep,
so you can skip ahead if you get bored with tales of sewing shit?
Still here? Cool. Okay, I got up early and got the taxes together for mailing, and happened to glance at my computer calendar, where I keep various events of interest. Turns out that this is the weekend of Buchanan's Antique Market down at Fair Park, and you know me and antique/junk stores -- I'm an out and out addict.
So I told Lyndon, who opined that it would be an excellent idea to head into Dallas and see if we could pick up some neat stuff. It was a nice day for it, too -- crisp but clear, just right for walking from the parking lot behind the Women's Museum to the hall where the market was held. Lyndon headed off to see if he could find any leatherworking tools, and I started perusing the stalls for interesting quilt fabric and tops.
As it turned out, I did get a nice fat quarter of a pretty fabric, as well as a little elephant figuring and a carved wooden handle for a dip pen, but nothing quilty really struck my fancy until I was halfway through the market. And then I saw it -- a sunflower in dark green, yellow and orange appliqued onto bleached muslin. I picked up the quilt top and checked it out -- all handstitched, very nice work, a couple of dirt stains but nothing that couldn't be soaked out, about a single size after a border is added.
Figuring something like this was going to run at least $75, I asked the owner for the price. "Oh, I guess $45 is good," she said.
I think I got windburn on my checkbook, I whipped it out so fast. One check later, and the pretty pretty quilt top was in a bag on my arm. I already have at least three quilts in the queue before I can work on this one -- I think it'll be a nice summer project.
