CONDFW - DAY TW)

The Fastest Seamstress in the West Rides Again

Well, let's see -- the morning was mainly a blur of sitting at the sewing machine throwing the new doublet skirt together, then slapping it onto the doublet. I still have't tacked the inside down, but at least it'll protect me AND it won't effectively say, "Here's Melanie's big fat ass!" anymore.

Hey, you can be deadly AND fashionable at the same time, you know.

Highlights of the day:

  • Watching one of the panelists in the Research 101 panel talk and crochet at the same time -- I was highly impressed, as I can barely grunt when I'm knitting.
  • Finding not only a new Kage Baker book in the dealer room, but two new P.C. Cast books -- whee!
  • Shifting back and forth between three accents in my reading.
  • Fencing in the rain with Selina, Jeff and Tracy, and having Glen show me a scimitar (since I'd mentioned one in my reading).
  • Heading off to Saltgrass Steak House for a hilarious dinner with Julia Kosatka, Bill Ledbetter, Jeff, Tracy, Robert Pickering and two other women. I don't think the waiter will ever be the same again, and Bill has now officially benn accused of having a second career as a man-whore.
  • Staggering back to the hotel in time to moderate the sex panel, and realizing that one of the side effects of Metformin was about to kick in, requiring a hasty visit to the bathroom.
  • Coming back to the room in time to discover that my fellow panelists had come up with an anthology concept entitled, "But Dear, That Never Happened To Me Before!" This is what happens when you leave those people alone.
  • Hanging out in the lobby with Judy Roberson-Steele and talking about autism.
  • Staggering off to bed around 12:00 AM, only to discover that the Aggiecon party was being held next door. Oy.
