Happy New YeaACHOO!
Well, we were supposed to go out to a small party tonight, but after a very necessary nap I feel like I've been beaten with sticks -- a raging cold, judging from the symptoms. So we're going to stay in, watch movies and eat Subway sandwiches -- for everyone else who is feeling better, though, have a fabulous New Year's Eve, and drive safely!
Oh, and resolutions? Yup, I've got 'em:
- Finish at least one novel and submit it for publication.
Right now, WHITE KNIGHT QUEEN ALICE looks like the most likely target,
and now that I'm no longer working at the Hellmouth I should be more
capable of fiction when I get home. I know that a lot of writers say, "That's no excuse -- you're supposed to write no matter what." To that, I say, "Screw
you -- I can't write when I'm horribly depressed."
- Lose weight. Yes, I know that's a perennial resolution on lots of people's
lists, but I put on ten pounds while working on the Dollhouse from Hell,
and I really don't like the way it feels, so I'll set myself a reasonable
goal of 30 pounds -- that would get me back into all the clothes I own
and make me feel a lot more comfortable.
- Get back to Chicago. Of course, if the Atlantic Convection Current is
slowing down Chicago will eventually be covered by a new ice cap, but until
I have to ride out on a snowmobile I want to enjoy my hometown, dammit.
- Finish some of my long-malingering craft projects, such as my Winter
in Sweden quilt and the Quilt Shoppe. God knows I could use the room in
my crafts closet.
- Talk to Ameriprise and start investing. It's awfully late, but if we're
aggressive I'm hoping that we can retire by 65 or earlier, because I really,
REALLY don't want to be documenting new applications until I die.
- Buy a house. Oh, Lord, I want to buy a house. But first we have to be in a place where we want to stay (at least until the ice caps sweep down). Hopefully this will be done sometime this year.
So, what are your plans for 2006?
