Staring into the Weekend
And a three-day weekend, too, which is good because right now I need the break. "But Melanie," I hear you cry, "you just came back from Christmas vacation in Chicago -- how can you be tired?
Ha. Ha ha ha.
- Friday night, we got to the hotel and shopped until
the stores closed. You
don't want to know about my blisters.
- Christmas Eve, we picked up various computer bits for Lyndon, then headed
down to Orland Park and my sister's, whereupon I discovered that UPS
had trashed Clara's dollhouse and was up until 2:00 AM Christmas morning
fixing all the damage.
- Christmas Day, we did various family-orientated things like g/r/i/l/l/i/n/g/
meeting Older Nephew's new girlfriend (lovely young woman, by the way),
visiting with my brother and his girlfriend, and listening to Clara playing
her brand new (and very loud) drum.
- Monday, we took Younger Nephew downtown to see King
Kong (why downtown? Because
he loves going downtown and very rarely gets to go there, so we wanted
to give him a treat), took him back home, installed a wireless card in
Older Nephew's laptop (Lyndon) and put a new spinning base on the dollhouse
(me), then went back downtown to the hotel and, well, collapsed.
- Tuesday, we roamed around Belmont and Clark until we were loaded down
with goodies (in addition to some nice miniature architectural bits, I
also picked up all the Writer Action Figures -- Shakespeare, Jane Austen,
Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde -- in the Accoutrements line
and will be making a Literary Coffeeshop shadowbox with them), then ran
back out to Orland Park to try and pick up the little dollhouse I'm going
to refurbish. Unfortunately,
Older Nephew had chosen that day to get up relatively early and go hang
out with his friends, so we were forced to return empty-handed to the hotel.
- Wednesday we checked out, ran back out to Orland Park, woke up a very sleepy Older Nephew, got the house, spent a solid ninety minutes driving hither and yon trying to find a store that would sell us a box big enough to fit said house, finally located a Kinkos/FedEx and got a box that fit the house like a glove, realized there was no time to hit the Museum of Science and Industry, ran out to the airport, dropped off the car, checked the bags and boxed dollhouse (yeah, like I was shipping another dollhouse -- HA!) and flew home.
Phew. I'm tired just typing all that up. So this weekend will be spent...well, cleaning, but that should only take up Saturday, and we've been invited to a small NYE party Saturday night. Sunday and Monday will be spent resting, relaxing and enjoying ourselves in our own unique ways (Lyndon will be working with his new Blue Snowball microphone, and I will be building a miniature wingback chair. What?).
But that's me -- what are your plans for the weekend, my darlings?
