Taxes Away!
Despite being in south Arlington, our new CPA is a gem and more than worth the drive -- we're getting a significant refund from the feds and Georgia, the taxes have been e-filed, and we have our estimated taxes for 2005, of which the first payment is already in the mail.
Phew. Now we can concentrate on saving money for Glasgow (since the memberships, flights and hotel are already paid for, this will consist of walking around money, plus car rental and hotel fees for the week before the con), and I suspect talks with a financial planner are in our near future, as well.
Oh, and I'd just like to remind you all to be very, VERY nice to secretaries and receptionists
Not only are they usually the nerve center of an office, sometimes they bake, too. Our exceptionally cool receptionist had a birthday last Friday, so I called a florist and had them send her a nice bouquet of flowers. She was so happy with them that she made me a batch of brownies this morning as a thank you.
Mmmmm. Brownies for breakfast -- now THAT'S nutrition!
On the downside, I'm afraid I hit and killed a bird this morning on the way to work. Yes, with my car. Yes, I know how unusual that is, which is why I feel bad. But I was on the Bush Turnpike, with SUVs all around me and absolutely no room to maneuver when a biggish grey bird with a bulbous head walked right in front of my car. I heard the impact, checked the rear-view mirror and saw the white-tipped wings fluttering pathetically on the asphalt. It didn't even try to fly off -- it just strolled in front of me. Arrgh.
