NEW YEAR'S DAY
Before we start the day's entry
You
may have noticed that I've been slacking off with the pictures recently. This
was due to the unfortunate fact that I kept running into the edge of my storage
space on io.com, and had to juggle things just so that I could keep making journal
entries.
But lo, this is no longer the case, because I checked io.com's web pricing list yesterday and found out that for an extra $9.95 a month I could get 100MB of storage. Considering that I had the basic 10MB for 10 bucks telnet plan and was paying an additional $8.95 a month for another 20MB -- well, you do the math.
So I called io.com, had them take off the additional 20MB and replace it with the 100MB, and as of this morning I now have a wide and breezy 110 MB with which to play. A 5X increase in storage space for an extra buck a month -- sweet.
And now, on with the journal entry.
Well, THAT was certainly an interesting start to the year
As you may know, Bob, we live in an apartment complex, on the second floor of a two-floor building, and our semi-enclosed balcony is right above our downstairs neighbors' balcony. Last night, I came back from the weightroom around 2:30 AM and decided to crack open the window in the bedroom overnight, as the air was fresh and smelling great.
This morning around 9:00 AM, I woke up from a complicated dream and realized I smelled something burning. I got up and sniffed at the window -- stronger there. Went into the foyer -- no smell there. Fearing that the lights on the balcony have somehow caught fire, I dashed into the kitchen and unplugged them, then went out on the balcony -- no sign of fire, but the smoke smell is incredibly strong.
I looked over the balcony railing -- smoke is coming out of the downstairs balcony. Oh SHIT.
I told a sleepy Lyndon what was happening, jumped into a pair of jeans, tossed a fleece over my nightgown and ran downstairs to see if I could see flames. Just as I'm turning the corner, I see Lyndon leaning over the balcony wall and calling down to our neighbor to see what's going on.
They're barbecuing. At 9:00 AM in the morning. On a semi-enclosed balcony (which has a water sprinkler installed in the ceiling as part of the fire prevention system, mind you) because it's drizzling. And the way the wind is blowing, the smoke gets piped up the side of the building and straight into our balcony. ARRRGH -- bloody idiots.
It's five hours later and my heartrate finally went down, but even with the fan on the bedroom still smells like smoke. I want a house so badly.
So how was your
New Year's?
