ConDFW III: Day the Third

Do these look like sultry sex goddesses to you? Yeah, me neither. (Photo Credit: Rhonda Eudaly)Leaving Lyndon to sleep the sleep of the innocent once again, I bopped back to the hotel in time for my last panel, "FanFic in the 21st Century." The amusing thing is that almost none of us on the panel had written any fanfic for years (Rhonda was the exception), but we still managed to have a good discussion about where to find the good stuff, the vagaries of slash and why it's courteous to finish an entire work before releasing it to the public.

Afterwards, Julia and I set out in search of lunch. Cafe Brazil was jammed, so we made do with chicken from KFC and a long, rambling conversation about Stargate SG-1 and the "Heros" episode. After a brief stop for ice cream (peppermint ice cream shake -- mmmmm), we ambled back to the con, where I was introduced to Doug Herrington, ConChair for ApolloCon, who also looks like my friend Jerry's slightly younger, slimmer twin. Being, well, pushy, I immediately volunteered my services to Doug, who took my info and promised that he'd be in touch. That makes two more cons that I've been invited to attend, whee!

From right -- Rachel, Amanda, Robert and Rhonda (Photo Credit: Steven R. Staton)Steve stopped by with his son in tow to pick up a picture he'd won in the art auction, and Leo and I wandered around the dealer's room while he paid for the pic and did a couple of other errands. Leo fell in love with a Knuckles doll, and was rather upset that Steve wouldn't buy it for him -- turns out that Steve had found out the seller wouldn't take plastic and he didn't have enough cash on him, so I ducked back in there and picked it up for him. It's going to be one of Leo's birthday presents, so he'll be a most happy camper.

They took off soon after that, and Julia and I hung around the lobby talking with everyone for another hour or so before it was time to ferry Julia to Love Field for her flight back to Houston. On my way home, I wound up getting a call from a friend of Lyndon's and mine from Montreal -- he was at the Radisson, of all places, had just missed me, had just purchased a copy of FBOTA, and could we get together sometime this week so that I could sign it?

Hee. It's good to have friends who buy your stuff.

All in all, it was a very pleasant con, despite the constant exhaustion. I'm hoping I'll be in somewhat better shape by the time Aggiecon rolls around next month.
