And that, as they say, is that

Today was the last day of my short 3-day work week, and I'm a very happy camper because I got to tell everyone "See you next year!" as I headed out the door. Yes, it's a stupid joke, but it still amuses me.

Tomorrow will be spent hunting for new ottoman legs (we're hitting Neal's Naked Furniture for those, and so that I can point out the tallboy I want to buy for Lyndon), generally tidying the place, getting some writing done and getting ready for the NYE party at my friend Jeff's house. Lyndon never met his daughter Merry, and he gets a little kid-starved over Christmas (plus we've been watching the tsunami footage, which is gut-wrenching) so this should be very nice.

Now if I can only figure out what to wear. Decisions, decisions. . .

Arts 'N' Crafts Girl rides again

As you know, Bob, Lyndon bought a lovely big ottoman on Tuesday. It's been great to put my feet up and relax while watching TV, and the cats absolutely adore it -- JJ, in particular, loves sprawling on it like the big black furry blob he is.

In fact, the only issue is that the upholstery fabric doesn't exactly go with our living room -- it's a fairly pale olive brocade, very nice in itself but a bit too foofy for our decorating scheme (and no, that's not it at left, but the style is similar). Enter Melanie and Her Magic Sewing Machine -- yes, I can reupholster it, but why bother when I can make a perfectly nice slipcover that's 1) removable, 2) washable and 3) replacable if the cats decide to shred it (they already tried sharpening their claws on it, and were quite surprised when I used the Voice™ on them).

So I hit the wholesale fabric outlets on Harry Hines yesterday and found a deep plum fabric that feels like the stuff currently covering the couch, and bought four yards of it (at $4.99 a yard -- yay!). I then found a nifty slipcover pattern online, so I figure I'll make a simple fitted slipcover with a box top and pleated skirt -- I even bought some pretty matching braiding to cover the seams and two tassels with some green in them to coordinate with the couch (yes, our living room is done in forest green, plum, white and cream. Go figure).

Yes, I know I sound like Martha Stewart, but I like doing this sort of stuff. When I'm not making Bondage Barbie versions of Ann Coulter dolls, of course. Heh, heh, heh. . .
