A day of much activity

Where do I start?

How about with the first happiness of the day -- when I stopped off to check my email this morning, I found a notefrom Ray Coulombe of Quantum Muse saying that they accepted my story "Female of the Species" for their April issue. A sale -- whee!

Next -- shopping. When we were rooming together at Aggiecon this year, Pat Elrod (who is now a goddess in my book) told me about a street off of Harry Hines that was full of fabric shops that did liquidations stuff, silk for saris, the lot. Since we had time before we had to get Tina to the airport, Lyndon and I went down there today (me just to browse, him to look for muslin for photographic backdrops), and the stores were everything Pat said and more. I came away with some beautiful iridescent red/black chiffon for a veil, burnt-out ruby velvet for a hip scarf and purple and deep blue trim for my purple dance costume.

All of this, mind you, for $25. Mellie is a very happy camper, and these places are only 5 minutes away from my office -- whee!!!

And finally, we took Tina to the airport for her flight home, after stopping off at On The Border for a sampling of Tex Mex. The girl had a good time in New York with Lyndon and in Texas with both of us, and hopefully she can come back next year (and ideally we can go over there for Christmas this year. I'd like to meet my newest nephew, after all).

The house is now quieter, and the cats are wandering around looking for the missing house ape who used to tickle their tummies and play with them. It really was astonishing to see how well Jordan took to Tina -- he usually runs in terror when someone new comes into the house. However, they seem to be comforted by the fact that I have the twin air mattress still blown up and sitting in my office, so I may leave it there for a while more. If it keeps them busy and lets me write, bonzer.
