Holy crap -- I AM a writer, aren't I?

Last night I pulled out "Root, Stock and All" and started working on it again, which felt really good. The stickler about this story are the two major characters -- I have to have one character get the other character to agree to do something that goes against his moral code, and that's been stumping me for some time, now. But I think I see a glimmer of a resolution taunting me in the distance, so hopefully I can get it knocked out and ready for next week's FutureClassics.

In the meantime, I have "Daughters of Men" on my Palm and have been working on that in spare moments. It's kind of an elegiac piece, my answer to "City of Angels" -- of course, what with it being slow, I really have to make the language count in order to keep the attention of the reader. Lots of sensory details in there, you betcha.

What else? Well, Lyndon and his sister Tina got back from New York yesterday (they'd gone there over the weekend for a photography convention), and today Lyndon is taking her out to an abandoned parking lot and teaching her how to drive. This should be. . .interesting, considering that Tina 1) has only had one driving lesson in her life, and 2) that was in a right-hand-drive car.

But at least she won't have to worry about shifting, so as long as he takes her to a parking lot with LOTS of space around it, she should be fine. I hope

Things turned out for the best

And by golly, it turns out that she's a natural driver, and can parallel park better than Lyndon can. If she can get more lessons when she gets home, she could be driving by this summer.

Watch out, Creswell!
