Just call me Belly Dancing Barbie

Yeah, I know I said I wasn't going to do the solo tonight. Then again, when did you ever know me to be consistent?

Being, well, insane, I decided that if I listened to the music on the way in to work this morning, worked on it during my gym time, and listened to the music on the way to class, I could probably come up with a decent enough solo to perform tonight, even if a third of it would wind up being improvised.

And by God, I did. in addition to the improv I completely forgot what I was supposed to do during eight measures in the middle of the song, mind you, and wound up playing with my veil a lot and winking at the class, but apparently that was good.

How do I know that was good, you ask? Because afterwards there was a critique by the class, of course.

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at first, but once the music started I was having a lot of fun, which is the point of the exercise -- Isis isn't looking for brilliant technique, she's looking for an ability to get out in front of an audience and not freeze. Well, hell, I can do that. I'm one of the biggest hams I know, after all.

So now that I've done my solo, I have to demonstrate four class dances (which should be a doddle) and then I'm on my way to Advanced II. Oh, and I now have a dance name -- Shau're. Those of you who are Stargate SG-1 fans will approve, I'm sure.
