Yea verily, it has been a productive Sunday

Well, I'm a happy camper -- after something close to a 10 hour stint I just finished "A Rose By Any Other Name" for THE FOUR BUBBAS OF THE APOCALYPSE and sent it off to my beta readers and FutureClassics for Tuesday's meeting. Once I get it back, I'll make whatever last minute changes need to be made and fire it off to Selina Rosen for consideration.

I really do love how I feel after I finish a story -- true, I don't really remember much of today because I was trying to get my Bubba protagonist and his stinky sweetheart out of a ring of hungry Yumbies, but the afterglow was worth it. I also think this is a personal best in storywriting -- I finished the entire piece within 24 hours, AND I like it. Whoo. Now I just have to hope Selina likes it as well, because there's absolutely nowhere else I can sell this puppy.

Meanwhile, Lyn was hanging out in the kitchen with his friend Val learning how to work with leather (you'd be surprised how it comes in handy with old folding cameras -- I need to have him pass on some of the tips and hints to me so that I can make us some leather doublets for fencing). It's really nice to see him making friends and getting involved in something other than work -- as scary as the thought of him being laid off in three weeks is, I can't help thinking that it's also something of a goodness. He's been here for over a year now and hasn't rustled up a gaming group, taken any classes or done much of anything outside of working for TBS, and that just isn't normal for him. He even said that he feels like he's finally waking up again after a decade-long sleep. Good for him -- it's about time.

It was also useful for me to have Val here, because I could amble through and ask questions about where people usually bought beer and what kind of long gun would a woman be likely to have (shotgun, as it turns out, and she supplied some leads on popular makes). While Val isn't a Bubba, she's more familiar with the breed than I am, being a Damn Yankee.

And both cats have started sleeping on their backs with all four legs splayed in the air. I swear to God, they're possessed by the spirit of Lassie.

And now -- to read the other stories submitted for Tuesday's critique session. So far, I think we have six entries -- this is gonna be one busy Tuesday night. . .
