Update on the Gateway Cat

I think Jordan may have a cold, after all -- JJ's been sneezing for the last few days, and Jordan wheezed a bit when I picked him up last night. This might explain why he's been so needy, then abruptly switched to "don't TOUCH me" mode yesterday.

Since our apartment has some serious issues with heat and insulation (e.g. I can feel hot air blasting through the register in my office, but not in the rest of the apartment) and it's gotten darned nippy out there, we decided to let the cats sleep with us and enjoy the warmth that a portable convection heater can bring to a room.

JJ climbs up on the bed, comes over to me for a chin scritch, purrs goodnight and curls up in the small of Lyndon's back. Great cat, gotta love him. Jordan climbs onto my beanbag and starts trying to catch my legs with his teeth or claws -- apparently he thought they were prey. When I gently drape a leg over him to convince him that this isn't a good idea, he gets offended, jumps off the bed and onto the dresser, where he proceeds to try and push my jewelry box onto the floor (he's already knocked loose change and my glasses down).

I get up, grab him and bring him back to bed for a cuddle. He puts up with this for a while, then slinks off and curls up with JJ. All four of us go to sleep until 7:00 AM or so, when the dawning sun wakes Jordan. He then proceeds to climb onto me, kneading my arm and ribs, and tries to find my hands so that he can headbutt them and get me to pet him. When I bury my hands under the covers, he sighs and curls up on top of me for a nap.

He's a very, very, very silly cat.

Can I get an Amen?

It's payday. And a three-day weekend. Mellie is a very, very, VERY happy camper who will be putting new shoes on the Hoosiermobile sometime in the next three days, oh yes.
