I'm satisfied

I like it when I get a weekend day that perfectly balances goofing off with getting something useful done.

After an extremely broken night of sleep (I got home around 6:00 PM last night, collapsed until 11:30 PM, stayed up until 2:00 AM writing, then went back to bed), I woke up briefly at 8:00 AM to feed the cats and muse over the idea of going to the dance class I missed on Monday. Looked out the window -- grey skies with lowering clouds, and it looked chilly. Ick. I decided to make up the class next week and went back to sleep.

When I woke up again, it was 1:00 PM, I had two cats sleeping on my feet and Lyndon was off doing his usual rounds. Got up in a disgustingly leisurely fashion, hopped on the scale and discovered I was back down to my pre-holiday weight (go me!), checked my mail, found a nice rejection from F&SF ("There's nice writing here, but this tale didn't grab my interest, I'm afraid." Hey, at least he didn't say it sucked), and pulled up the story to do a bit more work on the ending in preparation to sending it out again on Monday.

Sometime around 3:00 PM, I decided to take a break. Since I had the apartment to myself, I made the most of it and spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning and doing laundry (came up with a nifty new ending for the story in mid-clean, too, so that was good). Lyndon came home soon afterwards and, bless his little British heart, installed a new shower head with adjustable modes in the main bathroom, which hopefully means that we'll have a little more power in the shower (please, God).

He then started working on a laptop he's giving to his sister (aka the Death of Computers -- she can never be allowed to breed with my nephew Mike, because the result would be the technological Antichrist) while I finished cleaning. Around 7:30 PM, I realized I was starving. The boy chimed in agreement, so I went to the store and picked up a nice London broil and some raw shrimp. The steak and two chicken breasts went on the grill, the shrimp were cut in two and sauteed in the wok with garlic and lemon, and everything was dished up in a protein-heavy feast. Ummmm.

And now it's 2:18 AM, most of the laundry is done, I did a half hour on the treadmill, my hair is once again all one color and my eyebrows match, and I feel like I've relaxed AND gotten work done today.

Sometimes, life is just plain good.
