Snow Day, Take Two

I checked the news this morning -- everything had refrozen overnight, and they were featuring shots of stranded 18-wheelers on I-20 that had just shut down for the night because they couldn't get enough traction to move anywhere. All the schools were closed again, and the kids were playing another game of hockey on the local roads.

Nope, not going out there, I thought, and started cleaning the kitchen instead. So far, this place is actually half-way decent, although the computer nook is still chock full of crap and I need to put away the sewing machine and piles of papers that are sitting on the divider counters between the kitchen and living room.

You love hearing about my exciting life, admit it.

Oooh, something exciting did happen, though. I called my sister about her much-anticipated visit down here, however, and learned that there was one eensy little problem -- due to various surgeries and other plan, she and my beloved nephew Mike were going to come down over Memorial Day weekend (mainly I suspect because a Creed fanclub website she belongs to was going to have a get-together that weekend in Dallas). Which is great, truly, and I'm glad that she'll get this opportunity to meet her friends face-to-face.

The eensy little problem? I'm scheduled to do A-Kon that weekend.

Um. . .oopsie?

And no, Jamie, don't panic -- I'm not going to bail. We're trying to get this worked out, ideally by them coming down the weekend after Memorial Day. If that doesn't pan out, then Stacy and Mike come down when they planned on coming down and I take them with me to the con when I'm scheduled to do panels, and spend part of the time with them doing touristy stuff around Dallas.

While Mike is a con vet (having made his debut at Chicon 2000, where he earned the sobriquet "Chicken Run" from La Reine Esther Friesner herself), Stacy's never been to a con before, much less an anime con. This should be. . .interesting. . .

The weight loss continues apace -- I can now fit into the second tier of "someday" pants that I've had since 1996, including the G-Division jeans that Lyndon bought me in England and a pair of Wranglers that I've never been able to wear (44 waist, in case anyone's keeping track). It's not a completely comfortable fit, but I can sit down in them without loss of blood circulation to the lower half of my body -- go me!

I figure, another 20 pounds and I'm back down to the weight I was when I married Lyndon. Another 20 pounds after that, and I'm back down to the weight I was in college (AND I'll weigh less than Lyndon for the first time in our marriage). Another 20 pounds after that, and I'm back down to HS weight. I'll know that's true when I can fit back into my HS gym shirt and winter jacket. After that, it's 50 more pounds down to my ideal weight.

But that's still a ways off. Next on the list -- being able to fit into the little black velvet Liz Claiborne dress I bought because it was so damn pretty. Actually, next on the list is a visit to the weight room now that it's only slushy and not icy out there.
