No, I'm not dead

I've just been horrendously busy for the last couple of weeks completing user guides and help pages, as I do. But I'm finished, now, and I'll be uploading the entries I wrote but was too damn tired to compile and post sometime tonight or tomorrow, I promise.

In the meantime, I've joined the DSL Generation -- whee! I now have an Xpeed SDSL modem sitting on my desk, and we can surf the net at broadband speeds, which is a goodness. Of course, the actual installation was a bit of a pig -- the tech couldn't get the signal all the way into the apartment, then it kept fading in and out, and there was a moment of panic when I plugged the phone into the jack that has our regular phone line (we had two, one for the phone and one for dial-up connections), and got that notable hissing "modem" sound. It turns out that when he was playing with wires in the junction box he flip-flopped the jack outlets, so the bottom jack is now our regular phone line and the top jack is the DSL outlet. Oh, and then for some reason it started working, but my Mac couldn't recognize the name server. Turned out the tech had put in the IP address for what he thought was the DHCP server, but it was the wrong address -- Lyndon called up Customer Support and got the correct address, then had to spend a couple more hours figuring out how to set up the router so that we can run Ethernet cable into his office and set up a LAN.

But he did figure it out, because after all he IS the Master, and we now have broadband Internet. It is muy cool. And I am muy tired, so I'm gonna go take a shower and slouch off to bed. There WILL be uploaded entries tomorrow, my ducks -- just give me one more day.
