Genuflecting
at the altar of Jobs
Whooee -- have
you seen the new iMac? The one that looks like a flower, with the
nifty new adjustible flatscreen and the CPU that looks kinda like
a big white Hershey's Kiss and tons of neatshit software and a DVD-R
drive that means you can burn your own DVDs?
*pant*pant*faint*
Okay, I'm better
now.
You haven't
seen it? What's wrong with you? Get thee hence to the nearest Apple
store, or just buy the latest issue of Time -- Jobs' smiling face
is featured on the cover with his latest innovation. And don't come
around here griping that it doesn't have the clocks of the latest
Pentium chip and the shape is just a stupid affectation -- I can
see a lot of uses for a CPU that small and a screen that flexible
(helllloooooo advertising!).
Yeah,
okay, I'll stop plotzing for joy (especially since when I do upgrade,
I'll probably just get another Powerbook -- considering what I do
and how much I travel, it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of
sense to get a desktop, really). Besides, I have something really
cool to work with at the moment -- we went back to my favorite antique
mall for a bit of a prowl, and I found this gorgeous old red Bow
Tie quilt for $25. The edges are badly frayed and a couple of the
inner blocks have worne through or were ripped off at some point,
so I'm going to cut off the two edges and patch in new patches,
muslin and batting -- it'll be finickity, but it'll be more than
worth it. The batting is the old all-cotton type, and the way it's
put together suggests that it's of rural origin and probably dates
from the late 40's - early 50's.
All in all,
this one's a keeper. Now I just have to find the time to do the
actual work. . .
