ConDFW - DAY
TWO
Panels and
babies and books, oh my!
Sunlight --
erg. Well, it wasn't that bad -- at least I hadn't found some hallway
in which to fence Selina last night, resulting in a late-night bout
of dehydration. I am learning, you know.
Lyndon woke
up his usual chipper self, and decided that he wanted to take a
nice, long shower, so I hopped into clothes and joined Julia downstairs
for breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. Bill and Jerry from FutureClassics
wound up joining us, and we talked about stories, Bill's experience
the night before with his first Daddy-Daughter Dance (he took his
daughter Sara, and apparently it was all just cute as hell), and
plans for AggieCon (Bill found out that they do Rocky Horror, and
immediately said, "I'm there." A tall, strapping Hoosier
lad dancing around to the Time Warp -- this should be good. . .)
As soon as Lyndon
was down and having breakfast himself, I stopped off at the front
desk to check out, then headed off to the "Art of the Short
Story" panel, where the audience members took turns helping
little David Holcomb practice his walking while the panelists (Lee
Martindale, Derek, Julia, and Selina) took turns talking about the
ins and outs of short story writing. To be honest, more of us were
paying attention to David than to the panelists, but when you have
an adorable blue-eyed one-year-old very slowly and carefully picking
his way along a forest legs, you are gonna pay more attention
to him than to a discussion on short story writing.
After one last
trawl through the dealer's room (which netted a slew of books I've
been wanting for some time, including Selina's "Queen of Denial"),
I hugged all and sundry, then headed home for a desperately needed
nap while Lyndon headed off to do some shopping at Fry's. All in
all, I must say that it's been quite a successful first con. I'm
looking forward to next year's.
And yes, Selina,
I WILL show up with weaponry, I promise.
