Got a nibble

That was fast!

I just got a call from a headhunter -- he interviewed me over the phone, and said there was a job that might suit me down to the ground. He's going to try and set up an interview next week with the company -- it's a contract-to-hire deal, which isn't exactly what I wanted but might do for now.

And then there was the email from another consulting agency that wanted me to contact them, which I'll do on Monday. And apparently my resume on Monster.com has been accessed 7 times already, which is heartening. Of course, I also know that headhunters sometimes have a tendency to throw pretty much anyone at a job in the hopes that the company will be so desperate that they'll take a C++ programmer, even if what they really need is a Java guru. So I'm not getting my hopes up until I see a signed job offer or contract in front of my big baby browns.

Have to stay focused, dontchaknow.

On the icky side of the Great Ledger of Life, I was supposed to go down to San Marcos this weekend and hang out with Julia, Janis and Fazia. Four Starfleet Ladies gathered together in a single place -- what could be better, right?

Yeah, except that Fate decided to throw me a curve ball with a humongous thunderstorm that slammed out of the west and started pissing all over the place. I was tempted to try it, but common sense prevailed (actually, common sense slapped me on the head and yelled, "What, are you a MORON? Do you want to DIE?"), and I have to admit that I was very happy I stayed at home when I watched the meteorological carnage on the news later that night. Mansfield (a small town south of Fort Worth) got hit by a tornado, and the prerequisite Texans who don't know how to drive in wet conditions got into the prerequisite number of car accidents.

So, much as I hated missing communion with my fellow Ladies, so to speak, it was probably all for the best. And, admittedly, the apartment is a tiny bit cleaner now. Well, I have to do something with my time.
