Imagine me grinning. Widely.

Well, he called me around 3:00 am last night. All in all, the news is good -- the officer at the embassy said that he should get the Green Card, just as soon as I backfile US taxes for the last three years and produce the tax forms, as my Swedish tax returns can't be accepted.

Which is not actually a problem -- I did pay taxes, just not in the States, and considering the exorbitant tax rate in Sweden I'll be very surprised if I owe anything to Uncle Sam (oh, if only they could get me a refund from the Swedish government), so it's just a matter of submitting the forms and getting the IRS brought up to date on my earning capacity.

In any case, I'm downloading TaxCut tonight from H&R Block, and as soon as I get the envelope full of my Swedish tax forms from Lyndon (which should be Monday at the latest), I'm going to file electronically, save the results as PDF forms and email them to him to print out over there. Those, along with the police report from Canada, are the last bits of paperwork the embassy needs -- once the INS has them in hand, Lyndon gets his permission to come to the States.

He could be here by the end of April. Aw, yeah. . .

The truly nice thing is that I can file electronically now, too -- my new Social Security card just arrived today with my married name, which means I'm now in the IRS database as Melanie Fletcher. Good news from the INS, my SS card is finally here (which means I can also get my driver's license changed over to Melanie Fletcher), I received the little slip of paper that means my paycheck is finally being directly deposited in my account after only three months -- my God, is that a light I see at the end of the tunnel?

Or just an oncoming train? I doan hear no whistle or see no flashin' lights, so eet mus' be the end of the tunnel, no? (Don't even ask me what dialect that's supposed to be -- I don't have the faintest idea).

So I'm sitting here finishing this up, then I'm going to see about cranking out a K on POP (the whole Greek chorus idea is soooooo cool), then I'm gonna play my guitar for awhile, and then I'm gonna go to bed and dream of my sweetie sleeping next to me. Hopefully, he'll be there for real very, very soon.
