Grrrrr, Part
Deux
Okay,
I do have the loan. Kinda.
It's
been approved, after much to-ing a fro-ing between here, the credit
union, and the agent in New Jersey. However, they can't get the
paperwork finished today, so I have to wait until tomorrow morning
before I can actually go over there, sign the papers and take possession
of the car.
Needless
to say, this is moderately annoying, and the poor salesman at Toyota
(who has been extremely nice) is starting to sound slightly bewildered
about the whole thing. He's had foreign workers come over with no
credit history whatsoever and get a car without a problem -- this
is the first time he's ever run into the problem, and with an actual
citizen yet. It is to make your head go boom boom boom.
And
of course, because I've been running around trying to get all this
done, I didn't finish my Bones of the World antho entry, dammit
all to hell. My only hope is that Bruce will decide to extend the
deadline for some reason or another, otherwise. . .well, I suppose
there's always Asimov's. Still pisses me off, though.
However,
there is some excellent news going on in the writing world
with regards to the WebRats -- three 'Rats are going to be attending
the spec fiction workshop/boot camp Clarion
this summer!
For
those of you who aren't familiar with it, the Clarion Workshop in
Science Fiction and Fantasy is the best known and most highly regarded
science fiction writing workshop in the country. It's been running
for 34 years, its grads include Vonda McIntyre and James Patrick
Kelly, and it really is considered to be boot camp for professional
speculative fiction writers. Following in the footsteps of other
Clarion grads and WebRats Hilary,
Trey
and Rob,
this year will see Samantha
Ling heading for Seattle and Clarion
West, while Karina
Sumner-Smith and Benjamin
Rosenbaum will be temporary Michiganders at the original Clarion.
Congratulations, y'all, and may you have an intense, inventive and
rewarding time.
Just
make sure you keep up your journals, y'hear?
