A public
service announcement
Um,
hi. It's been brought to my attention that some people have been
seriously worried about me, and that my delay in posting new entries
since last Saturday hasn't helped. Let me just say that I received
the results of my blood test on Monday, and everything was in the
normal range, even my cholesterol. So I don't have lupus, cancer,
diabetes, a malfunctioning thyroid or any of the other dangerous
and expensive illnesses I was worried I might have.
So
what do I have? Well, I don't know yet, but a friend has made a
very intriguing suggestion. I had mentioned in another forum that
I've experienced similar symptoms before, always in the week before
my period. She read out my symptoms to her husband, a doctor, and
he remarked, "Hmm -- sounds like atypical migraine." Apparently
an atypical migraine has all of the side effects of a classic migraine,
but none of the pain -- it presents like a small, "reversible"
stroke, which perfectly describes how I was feeling last week. Many
people also regularly have a migraine during a specific time in
their cycle, so the dizziness and muscle weakness of last week may
simply be my body's precursor to the crimson tide.
Which
is not as bad as it sounds. Yeah, it's uncomfortable as hell, but
I'm not going to drop dead from it, which is the important thing.
I figure I'm going to wait until I get a job and medical insurance
again, then go in to my doctor and talk to him about it. If it is
an atypical migraine, there may be some sort of medication I can
take that will ameliorate the worst of the symptoms.
The
thing I find blackly amusing is that a lot of the talented writers
and on-line journalers I know suffer from migraines, almost as if
it was some sort of adjunct to writing skill. I wonder if this means
I'm eligible to join the club?
The other reason
why I haven't been making regular journal entries for the last few
weeks is because I've been doing some website design for two groups.
The first one is password protected, so I can't point you towards
the URL, but the second one is for a writer's group I belong to
here. Right now we're temporarily using the name FutureClassics,
and the website
lists all the members, useful links for writers and the assorted
cons in the Texas/Oklahoma area.
I'm especially
glad that I finally finished this site because I commissioned artwork
from Emily Smith for it,
and she produced some stunning images. If anyone likes collage work
and needs a book cover, I seriously suggest that you get her to
do the artwork -- she's flipping brilliant.
