House Hunting
I've
been thinking about the house situation some more, while I wait
patiently for the lady from the TSB-selected realtor's agency to
get in touch with me about finding a place. (This should be interesting,
because I'm supposed to move out of this apartment on February 7,
and I still don't have a permanent place lined up.
When I asked the TSB placement folks about getting an extension
(with the assumption that I would pay for it, of course), the agency
fembot hemmed and hawed, finally admitting that she'd have to talk
to the realtors that actually own the apartment and see if it would
be possible.
I
would certainly hope so -- I find it hard to believe that
everyone who passes through the hands of this is able to find a
place to live within a month, especially if they're starting a new
job at the same time. Must give everyone another call on Monday
or Tuesday and find out what the hell is going on.
Although
I have to admit that I'm really tempted to rent a three-bedroom
townhouse in this complex. I like it -- it's ridiculously
close to work, you can walk to the store if you like, a major mall
is fifteen minutes away, and I just like the look of the place in
general. We already had to get rid of a lot of our stuff, so it's
not like we have a full houseload of furniture anymore, and quite
frankly I'm massively tired of renting some huge dustcatcher of
a barn on the basis that we need a full-time guest room (which is
empty 95% of the time), workspace, yadda yadda yadda, and then trying
to keep it clean (and yes, I'm probably going to get a biweekly
maid service, but someone still has to do the day-to-day tidying
up, and it gets to be a bitch when you have to do it over a 3 or
4-bedroom house and work full time and try to get
some writing done).
Whereas
a two-story three-bedroom townhouse in this complex gives us a big
bedroom with a fireplace and two rooms to use as office space (and
I'd be happy to use mine as a combination office/guest room), a
big kitchen, big living and dining room space, hookups for a washer
and dryer, the option to rent a garage (for all that woodworking
and stuff), easy access to a fitness center and pools, a concierge
to call if something goes wrong, and the convenience of not having
to pay for lawn service (since there's no fucking way I'm going
to even try and do that here, not with the work load I have). Big
enough to have our own personal spaces, small enough for me to keep
clean and in good condition.
Hey,
Julia, want to check out townhouses this weekend?
