So THAT'S
what a real paycheck looks like
Wow.
I don't actually know why, but I was paid for a full two weeks.
Cool.
Of
course, I didn't actually get the check until today, and that was
only after I emailed our HR person and asked wistfully if I was
ever going to be paid. Turns out that Payroll didn't have my mail
drop and thus couldn't send the check anywhere. Lovely.
In
any case, they now have it, which means I now have it, and will
be cashing it and using the bulk to start a bank account immediately.
I also want to see if I can keep a lid on my spending and start
socking away as much cash as possible, mainly because having a savings
account is always a good thing, but also because I have to buy a
car sometime in the next four weeks and a bed after that. At least
the bed shouldn't be that bad -- we've decided to go with the king-sized
option where we each have a single mattress and spring in a king-sized
frame, with a mattress pad holding the whole thing together, and
single mattress/springs are relatively cheap.
And
for the curious out there, we're doing it this way because Lyndon
likes a really firm mattress, and I need something deep and seriously
squashy (as I am a deep and seriously squashy broad, although I
do seem to be shedding some of the weight recently).
I
can't really complain about the car, either, because I've already
been approved for a car loan as a TSB employee. All I have to do
is cough up the down payment, and with any luck I can put down a
couple of thousand and keep the loan payment at a reasonable level.
Of course, now I have to decide what I want to get (I know -- my
life is so hard).
On
one hand, the idea of getting a VW Bug is really, really appealing
because those are gorgeous little cars and I've been craving something
small and sporty ever since I gave up my Tercel. On the other hand,
we are in Texas and I've always liked the idea of getting
a pickup truck, and Toyota makes some really nice ones. Downside
of a truck is that there's little room for extra passengers, and
no, I'm not making people ride in the back. Downside of the Bug
is that I'm not sure how well it handles long-distance driving,
and we will be putting some miles on the odometer just with trips
to Austin and Houston.
Seems
like hitting a few dealerships and taking some test drives this
weekend would be a good idea, don't you?
The
hormone carbonation seems to be abating a bit (see, I TOLD you),
but not before I had some fabulously steamy dreams. It's good
to have an active imagination, even if I don't think certain things
are anatomically possible. They're definitely not legal in Georgia.
Heh,
heh. . .
