Alone again, naturally

Bleah.

Yeah, I'm a bit depressed. Stacy should be winging her way back to Chicago right now, and man, this place seems quiet without her.

But I can't complain, not really. It's been a great weekend, full of helpless giggling and lots of talk, and we both really needed this break. Besides, we had a wonderful day today, starting with breakfast. See, when I was wondering where to take Stacy to eat, Erin told me all about the Blue Mesa Grill and its Sunday Southwestern brunch.

Oh.

My.

God.

We went to the Addison restaurant, 5100 Beltline Road (I include this because if anyone is in the area, you have to go to this place). Imagine a beautiful open-plan restaurant with high ceilings, exposed beams, and classic Southwestern architecture. Then imagine it filled with little stations offering the most incredible spread of food -- fresh quesadillas with your choice of fillings, custom-made omelets, taquitos, all kinds of Southwestern specialties I didn't recognize but sampled greedily, a regular breakfast buffet, a dessert buffet (Churros! Whee!) with superb cheesecake, and unlimited mimosas.

We loaded plates with guacamole, eggs, quesadillas, bits and pieces and odds and ends and just ate until it was coming out of our ears. Ummmmmmmm. And all of this for $14 a person. Trust me on this one -- it's worth coming to Dallas-Fort Worth just to eat here. And best of all, they're opening a new restaurant up here in the spring -- thank you, God!

Of course, she couldn't go home without some blatantly Texan souvenirs, so we went to Stonebriar Centre to walk off breakfast and hit Guitars and Cadillacs. Okay, so it's cheesy as hell, but I LIKE this place -- we're talking shirts dyed with Genuine Texas Dirt, chili pepper lights (I have a strand decorating one of the bookcases in the living room at the moment), salsa mixes, Texas flags, and all kinds of Texas-oriented tchochkes. Stacy got Mikey a strand of chili lights for his room, a sheriff badge for Tony and some toys for Clara. Of course, Auntie Mellie couldn't let her go home without a couple of presents, so I added a Texas flag for each boy and the cutest little denim and bandana cowgirl outfit for Sweetie.

And then. . .well, we waddled home, to be honest (hey, after a breakfast like that, you're not exactly in the mood to go hippety-hoppety down the lane, okay?). Just sprawled around the living room watching VH1 and a string of Behind the Music specials, enjoying the peace and quiet and wondering how Danny Bonaduce survived puberty.

But now she's gone, and I'm on my own again. I'll get used to it, I suppose.

Don't have to like it, though.
