Ah, the lovely
sound of sirens
Whooee,
but it's windy out there. As I may have mentioned before, I had
to go into Richardson and test drive my Tacoma (a beautiful truck,
and if we already had a vehicle that could transport passengers
I would get it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the Xtra cab has jumpseats
that are only suitable for 5-year-olds and won't even hold a baby
seat, which would guarantee that the moment I bought the truck I'd
either get pregnant or someone would move in with us. So I'm going
with a red Corolla S with manual transmission -- such a hardship).
Part
of the test drive was actually performed in spitting rain, which
wasn't a problem as the Tacoma can handle foul weather without blinking
an eye. However, when I got it back to the dealer and went in to
talk with the salesman, the heavens opened and micturated down like
a gomer on Lasix. We're talking serious rain -- I haven't seen weather
like that since. . .well, since last Friday, to be honest.
But
the truly amusing part was the report on the radio that the tornado
sirens had gone off in Plano. I'm sitting there thinking, "First
her plane gets diverted to Shreveport, then she doesn't get to sleep
until 1:30 am, and now she's probably wondering if the world is
coming to an end -- what a splendid getaway weekend."
As
it turned out, Stacy was in the kitchen watching the miniTV since
she couldn't figure out which remote turned on the TV in the living
room (this is understandable -- we currently have two TVs and three
remotes in there) when she heard the sirens. Then someone came on
a PA system and started telling everyone to seek shelter. "I
thought, I'm tired and I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit in a dark
garage. Let the tornado take me," she said later.
By
the time I got home, the weather had improved to the point where
it was sunny, warm and sunglasses were not optional. Have I mentioned
recently that I love Texas weather? So we hopped in the car and
spent a couple of hours wandering around the Dallas
Museum of Art, which was a ball because we kept making snotty
comments about various pieces of art and cracking each other up.
Well, hell, we're supposed to enjoy the experience, yes? And afterwards
was a bit of shopping at Target, dinner at the Salt Grass Steakhouse,
then movie night at Chez Fletcher West, complete with Tostitos and
salsa.
The
nicest thing, though, is just having Stacy here. I hadn't realized
just quite how lonely I was getting until she arrived, and now I
don't want her to leave tomorrow. Yes, I know, I'm a big fat baby,
but it's like having a little bit of Chicago here with me, dammit.
