What weekend?
Did
I have two days off? Doesn't seem like it, somehow, dunno why.
Whaddya
mean, I'm walking like a Serbian grandmother? Shut up, ya mouthy
kid, or I'll whack you with my stick.
But
the kitchen is now squared away and spotless, and most of the big
boxes are out of the living room. I have my office desk and bookcase
up, and am unloading books into there as fast as possible. Lyndon's
office -- well, let's just say that as much as I miss him, it's
kinda nice that he's not here right now because I can use his office
as the Repository of Broken-Down Boxes. I also think he's going
to have a slew of full boxes in there, too -- there are five
or six boxes in my office that need to be moved in there, three
more in the living room, and then stacks in the room itself already.
And yes, honey, these have your stuff -- I recognize your handwriting
on them.
Of
course, I didn't just spend the weekend unpacking. I also went out
and browsed for dressers at Neal's
Unfinished Furniture. Of course, I couldn't buy anything (since
my paycheck didn't arrive until today, much as I predicted), but
I found the dresser I want for myself. They don't have a picture
of it on their website, but imagine the big pine dresser cut off
at four drawers and you've got the right idea. Best of all, they
have matching night tables, vanity mirrors, and a big ol' bachelor's
chest for Lyndon and his fifteen million t-shirts. Then again, maybe
I'll just get this big mother -- think you can fit all of your stuff
in it, baby?
As
for why I'm buying naked furniture, I prefer it because 1) I know
how to professionally finish furniture, 2) I finally have a garage
in which to do this, 3) I can pick the color and finish, 4) it's
solid wood, no composite or veneer crap here, and 5) it's a heck
of a lot cheaper than getting them already finished. So It'll take
me a couple of evenings in the garage with a sanding block, stain
and some varnish -- now that the townhouse is almost finished, I
actually have free time again in my future.
And
yes, Julia, I will be using some of it to write, I promise. But
I also write when I'm busy sanding and staining -- I'm just writing
in my head.
