It's PEESSSSING
out there
Oh,
my. I'm back in plains country again, aren't I?
The
heavens opened today and decided to urinate forth most of their
contents in a display that could only be described as "waterfall-like."
This is how hard it was raining -- Dallas drivers were obeying the
speed limit. That happens once a century, I think, and this new
one just had its occurence.
So,
heavy rain, thunder and lightning, all the weather I adore -- what
did I do when I finally got home? Did I sit down on the papasan
chair and relax with a good book, enjoying the ambiance of the weather?
Did I grab my laptop and hammer out some words, inspired by the
violent glories displayed in the skies above?
Did
I fuck. I had boxes to unload, remember? Oh, and to move from room
to room, thanks to the Swedish movers deciding to RELABEL everything
according to their own whims. And let me assure you, if you've never
moved boxes of books before -- they're heavy. Heavy. We're
talking lead here, okay? Rush Limbaugh-style heavy. And as a result,
I'm on serious amounts of Advil right now, just to kill the creaking
stabbing pain in my knees. I'd add a slug of Bailey's if I wasn't
afraid the combo would do something deadly to my liver.
But.
All the bookcases are up in the living room, which means I can start
to unload books and break down the boxes. The kitchen is a mess
but completely unpacked -- I just have to run three loads of dishes
and other accoutrements through the dishwasher, then find a place
to put them all away. And more and more clothes are slowly wending
their way through the washer and dryer, to be put away in the closet
pending my purchase of a dresser.
Best
of all, I can kinda see the floor in the living room now. It's amazing
how a smallish scrap of bare carpeting can make you giggly with
relief.
Fifteen
million boxes down, fifteen million more to go.
